Purity unfolds;
is revealed
as a curved white cross,
a shallow chalice;
petals streaked
with a drop of blood.
dogwood blossoms
reach for blue sky,
for life-giving sun,
before dense leaves
crowd the canopy.
Before the petals
descend
to the earth.
Before the knock
on Heaven's door
can be answered.
