Every October,
sumac flames from the fencerow:
with leaves perfectly parallel,
with veins backlit by the sun,
with leaflets toothed and touched
by dynamic reds and oranges;
every tapered tip
pointing to its creator,
glowing in the grace
of a consuming fire.
