White Oak

 

This massive White Oak

sends its roots 

deep into the earth,

probing the heart of gravity.

Its crown spreads wide,

capturing life-giving energy;

the miracle of photosynthesis

performed with the summer sun,

under a transparent sky.

Silver Veins

 

Silver veins of water

weave and wrap

around dark rock,

obey gravity,

carry the mountain's

meltwater, fall

to a tributary,

to a river,

to its ocean 

goal.

glittering in the Payette River

briefly reflect the light, then blend 

into the blue-green water

as the current weaves

a liquid tapestry

through the canyon;

laughing as it tumbles

over large boulders,

obeying gravity,

joyful on its journey.
