Fragments of Poetry 20

"Maybe
the desire
to make
something
beautiful
is the piece
of God
that is inside
each of us."

Still Listening

Clouds are clearing
as dusk darkens.

Stars, invisible in daylight,

renew their familiar geography.

Mystery is pulsing
through the universe.

The night wind whispers
through the trees.

Echoes from the past
embrace my heart and mind.

My soul is still listening

to the voice of God.

The Holy Spirit within

offers words of inspiration.

I've traveled many years to get here,

and still, I await the blessed hope.

Reading the River

The steady pull of the river
carries you toward the future,
proposing your purpose;

dropping the residue of regret,
now accumulating unseen
in the silt of the riverbed.

Rounded wrinkles swirl on the surface;
appearing and disappearing.

The fluid edges of light
bending blue and gold.

Like opportunities for change
sliding over the smooth current
of the present.

Slowing down,
taking some time
to see what else
the river may bring.

Meeting Dusk

Never late
for its meeting
with dusk;
darkness arrives,
carrying time
on its solid, black back.

Silver Arcs

Like the wake of a boat,
the effect of our lives
expands, unrolls,
long after we've
left.

The long-lived ripples
all point to the source;
whether credit or blame,
generous or selfish,
love shared or withheld.

Moments and memories
move out in silver arcs
eventually slipping away,
leveling out into tranquility.

Our course
still determined
by our  source:
our ever-loving God.

"Sacred Silence"

"Sacred silence.
holy ocean,
gentle water,
washing over me;

help me listen,
Holy Spirit,
come and speak to me.

Come and be with me.
Come and speak to me."
