Construction

looking back
down the road
recently traveled;
the road whose edges
have softened and crumbled,

will today's moments
hold fast
if I concentrate the words,
form them, like rocks,
into concrete sentences,

mortar the memories
into a durable structure
to contain what I feel
building in my mind,
my heart, my soul?

Shadow of the Hawk

Hiking this bouldered trail
on my earth bound existence,
I am suddenly touched
by the passing shadow
of a Red-tailed Hawk.

Above these foothills
scattered with Ponderosa,
he is sailing in circles.

Below these cumulus
growing whiter and brighter,
he is dancing on the wind.

Under this intensely blue
Colorado sky,
this flying shadow
felt like a brief blessing.

It was.

Fragments of Poetry 15

"How astonishing it is
when some floating sense of exaltation
or desperation sharpens into
a phrase that bursts uninvited,
into consciousness, ... and soon
this little jewel of a thing is born
and grows up to be a poem."

~ Luci Shaw - from: What the Light Was Like © 2006

Presents

God displays his presence
through eyes newly opened.

God speaks his presence
through ears seeking his voice.

God shares his presents
through kind hearts sharing his gifts.
