  1. Richard, what a fun post. I love the idea of cinnamon bark. That's one of the images here that feels just right to me.

Upon reading these, I was going to suggest that you check out Four Winds Haiga, but I see you're already on top of that. :)

I'm really into trees. Some of these were from an old Power Point I created, but couldn't upload in that format. Have you been out WEST to see and smell the Ponderosa Pines? Unforgettable. I'll write you with some further Blogger Qs. Thanks for responding.

  4. Ben:

Thank you. The White Oak grows older at the end of our driveway. The young Aspens were found near Crested Butte. We will definitely see them when we meet in Colorado this summer. I have shots of Sarah IN a tree, or UP a creek. Your Choice?

  6. I love the warm morning sunshine in the oak tree. But my heart is in the aspen glory. And then I see Mary hugging her tree and smile. Is it just me, or does the word "Haiku" sound a little "Shmadi, Shma" (imagine me saying that with a monocle and a top hat.) It is probably cuz I can't spell words like Haiku. I think your poems are fabulous..I just turn into a 13 year old with the word..ignore me..i don't sleep much. But I digress....YOUR IMAGES ARE SPECTACULAR and I love how they move you to dance with words and share all of it with us in the big, tiny world of the internet. Your blog post are making me miss you though..xoxoxox

  7. Max: So YOU are the famous icon/character in "The New Yorker"!
I only got 3 hrs. myself last night. Two complete drafts + 8 revisions... but I am loving the writing again; just like when I was up at Peninsula Writers on Glen Lake.
Mary has hugged a Ponderosa in at least 7 states! I like your line:"they move you to dance with words." You are so kind. Thanks.
    Gratefully, Rich

  9. Hi Dad!
Favorite photo: I can't resist the one with my tree-hugging Mama in it! : )
Favorite haiku: I love the aspen haiku for the personification "reaching for the sun."
Favorite tree: of all time? Banyan. In this post? Aspen.

    Keep 'em comin'!

    Love,

  10. Sarah: Thanks for your detailed response. Coming from an excellent writer like yourself, I value your comments on my Haiku. Today, as I looked again, I focused on the textured trunks, especially those black arcs curving downward where branches once grew. Love, Daddy
