On this August afternoon,
the drone of Cicadas
drills into my drowsy head.
During the softness of dusk,
early fireflies
always surprise me
with their next location.
Now, the evening rhythms
of rigid Katydids
measure the temperature
of the night.
I continue my fall
into deep summer;
into deep sleep.

ReplyDeleteExquisite katydid! I'm always sad when the light of the fireflies is extinguished at end of the summer...and when the night sounds taper off and finally cease after a hard frost. The cessation of each delineates a passing away and elicits the melancholia of loss...until the Resurrection chorus of the Spring Peepers come April! Already the morning chill bespeaks a shift towards Autumn days ahead. ~Mike Cronk
